For all the weary school burdened summer staff, the burnt-out pastor, the former staffer, the lifelong camper, and the new friend, this is for you. You are welcome here.
Behold, I will gather them from all the countries to which I drove them in my anger and my wrath and in great indignation. I will bring them back to this place, and I will make them dwell in safety.
I remember the feeling that washed over me after coming home after a long college semester. The pressure of deadlines, projects, exams and grades faded into the warm smell of mom’s cooking. Attacked with hugs by my favorite people, my soul felt peace. Despite having fantastic roommates and friends, and loving my new life and newly gained independence, home gave a sense of calm in the chaos of school and activity. Home was a safe place to land.
My Husband and I moved to Sacramento a little over a year ago, to work here at Sacramento Camp and Conference Center year round. We’ve worked at camps before, so this way of life was not all that different, but everything else was new! While it was a big life change, and nerve wracking, and scary, we needed to move. Before Sacramento, there was a lot of uneasiness in our jobs and where we lived. I especially, felt like my life was in a fog, and while there was a certain sense of security in the familiarity, there was no peace. There was no growth. Since coming here day by day, and week by week, the sun began to break through the fog. God made it oh so evident that he had lead us here to remind us of His goodness, and to bring us peace after being very weary. The Lord has provided so much for us in this place and it’s a blessing to work here knowing that others are also being blessed by Him as well.
That is our goal, that is our hope. That is our prayer. That others come here and rest easy in His presence. If you have been met with a smile, it is because of the gospel. If you have been helped by a staff member who was once all the way across the room, it is because of the gospel. If your midnight ring on the call box is answered (and it will be), it is because of the gospel. We serve out of our love for Christ.
“How Blessed are the feet of those who bring the peace of the Gospel.” Romans 10:15
The Gospel, good news, of Christ is wrapped in peace. He bore the wrath, he took the pain of the greatest indignation and left us with the greatest news, the greatest peace. We hope that you land in that peace, we pray you come to know his peace. Especially while you are here at Sacramento.
So whether you stay here for a weekend, a week, or a whole summer, I hope Sacramento is a safe place to land for you. It has been for us.
